EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
What is the most used racing plane?

Answer :
In the modern era of air racing quite a few of the aircraft are ex-military types, like the P-51 Mustang. However, in 2008 at the National Air Races in Reno, Nevada, the most used airplane was the North American T-6.

Here's the breakdown:
T-6 (T-6 Class) = 22
Pitts Special (Biplane Class) = 18
Cassutt (Formula 1 Class) = 17
P-51 Mustang (Unlimited Class) = 10
Hawker Sea Fury (Unlimited Class) = 6

The largest class overall was Unlimited with 24 airplanes, followed by Sport Class with 23, T-6 with 22, Formula 1 with 21 and biplane with 20 airplanes.

Take care,
