EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
Who was the first black man to fly solo across the Atlantic? The Pacific? Around the world? Thanks!

Answer :
The records for these types of events are often sketchy, but here's what we do know:
•Hubert Fauntleroy Julian crossed the Atlantic in 1929, two years after Lindbergh. http://www.afiwi.com/people2.asp?id=288&name=Hubert+Julian&coun=0&cat=0&offset=11
•After checking several sources, I find no references to a black man flying solo across the Pacific.
•Barrington Irving, flew around the world from March 23, 2007 - June 27, 2007 at age 23.
