EAA Young Eagles - Ask the Expert

Question :
How long does it take to learn to fly? Peter

Answer :
Hi Peter,

That all depends on what type of flying you want to pursue and the amount of time you have available.

For a basic Private Pilots certificate, you will need a minimum of 40 hours in the air. The average amount of flight time is closer to 60 - 80 hours.

There is also ground school involved and that can either be taken at the same time as your flight training or through a separate class. Most people take about a year to complte the process, although there are accelerated courses available. Check the Be A Pilot web site for a list of flight schools near you www.beapilot.com

Hope you'll be flying soon!
