EAA AeroScholars

If an EAA Young Eagles flight is the start of your aviation journey, the EAA AeroScholars program prepares you for the next steps. EAA AeroScholars is the only online aviation course currently available for high school students. It enables students to earn high school or college credits.

According to Dr. Lee Siudzinski, who heads the program, few high schools offer aviation programs, but through AeroScholars you receive an introduction to aviation that shows you a number of opportunities you may want to explore. While not intended to make everyone a pilot, those who successfully complete the Aviation Science Fundamentals and Advanced Aviation Science courses are authorized to take the FAA private pilot knowledge test.

Any high school student in the world can take the online courses. Students have 18 weeks to complete the two courses, as well as 10 weeks for a summer session. More than 1,000 students completed the course in AeroScholars first year in 2004. The number of participants has continued to grow since then.

Created in collaboration with Utah Valley State College, EAA AeroScholars is accessible no matter what time or day of the week you have available to study and because of the always-on nature of the Internet, the course is also available every day of the year. In addition to the online content, web assistance is available nine hours a day, Monday through Friday. So if you have a question about the content, or are having difficulty with the technology, help is available.

Enrollment also includes an EAA student membership, and the courses provide opportunities for non-virtual experiences, such as taking a flight lesson, visiting a weather station, or attending an EAA Chapter meeting.
